Hadith about the opportunities that Allah affords us

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

What is status following Hadith? and can it be quoted?

Hadith states like this more or less:

“Surely in your time from your sustainer there are winds/breeze (Nafahat) ,so search for them because whoever finds them will never lose ever.

Answer

This is the narration of Sayyiduna Muhammad ibn Maslamah (radiyallahu’anhu) as recorded in Al-Mu’jamul Kabir, vol.19 Hadith: 519 and al-Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 2856 & 6243.

The chain for this narration is weak.

(Majma’uz zawaid, vol.10 pg. & Takhrijul ihya, Hadith: 548)

However the following narration does support it:

Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:

‘Keep doing good all your life, and avail yourselves for the winds of Allah’s mercy. For indeed Allah Ta’ala has certain winds of mercy which he sends on whoever he wishes among his slaves. Ask Allah to conceal your faults and to keep you safe from danger.’

(Al-Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 720 & Shu’abul Iman of Bayhaqi, Hadith: 1083-1084. Imam Bayhaqi has also recorded this text on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah, Hadith: 1085)

When combined with the above and other supports, this Hadith does acquire sufficient strength that makes it suitable to quote.

(As-Sirajul Munir, vol.2 pg.12. Also see: Sharhul ihya, vol.3 pg. 281-281, Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 35737 & Imam Bayhaqi’s analysis after Hadith: 1085)

Explanation

The ‘winds of mercy’ in this Hadith refers to the special occasions in the Islamic calendar, like the months of Ramadan, laylatul Qadr, the night of the the fifteenth of Sha’ban, the tenth of Muharram, the chosen moment on Fridays etc.

In this Hadith, one is being exhorted to take advantage of these opportunities that Allah Ta’ala affords us in which His mercy descends in extra abundance.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
