The virtue of memorising forty Hadiths

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

I have heard that there is a Hadith which says to the nearest meaning:

The one who memories forty Hadiths, will awaken on the day of judgement with the ‘Ulama.

Is this a Hadith or saying of the salaf, can you please clarify if this is even correct? Jazakallahu Khair

Answer

This Hadith is recorded in several Hadith books with weak chains. Collectively they are suitable for practice.

Imams Bayhaqi and Ibn ‘Asakir, as well as ‘Allamah Nawawi and Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahumallah) have all given similar rulings like the above.
