Is the salah performed with a human-hair wig valid?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwa.ca

Question:

I want to ask if my salah with a wig made of human hair be accepted? I know wearing such a wig is haram but I want to know about salah?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Human hair in-itself is not impure (najis). Its use is made impermissible due to the honor (ihtirām) for human body.

The validity of salāh is dependent on purity (taharah) of the body and its clothing. Adorning oneself with harām clothing is impermissible and sinful, but as long as it is pure it will not affect the validity of the salāh. However, due to the external impermissible element, the salah will be considered makrūh.

We would advise you to find an alternative synthetic wig or to pray without a wig, adorning yourself with a kufī or a skull cap. [i]
