Donations to churches and children homes

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. Non-Muslim churches and children homes, etc. sometimes approach Muslim businesses for charity. Would it be permissible to give financial help to them, or would it be considered as condoning their shirk? Would it be allowed if we give foodstuff/clothing/furniture?

A. Donations to children’s homes are allowed since the cause is a good one and the purpose is to help the poor and needy children. However, donating towards non Muslim churches and the likes, is not permissible since this is a way of propagating and supporting their religious activities.

It will be allowed to give foodstuff/clothing since this falls in the general allowance to help non-Muslims.

And Allah knows best.
