Zakaah on house not in use.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. My brother is residing in the USA. He has one house in Pakistan which is not in use. How much Zakat does he have to pay or is there no zakat for this house?

A. Zakaah will be given if the house is for sale. If the house is not for sale, then it will fall into the category of ‘personal use’ and no Zakaah will be paid on it.

If it is for sale, and has not been sold as yet, then you will pay 2 1/2 % of the value of the house (when you are paying Zakaah).

And Allah knows best.
