Can you wear nail polish during menstruation?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Question:

Assalamu Alaikum….

I have a question regarding nail polish on a popular page where a lot of Muslim sisters go to view hijab tutorials and discuss a lot of issues a lot of the sisters were saying that nail polish is not haram that there is a hadith about having grease wax dirt etc on your nails and body which have to be removed so your wudhu would be valid …that you can wear nail polish during menstruation because women don’t pray during this time as long as you remove it when it is time to pray. I would appreciate your view on this as well as the hadith.

Answer:

Wa Alaikum as Salaam,

All our scholars have mentioned that if a woman performs wudhu while wearing nail polish, then her wudhu will not be valid. Hence, it means that the Salaah read with that wudhu will also not be valid. If she is wearing nail polish, then she must remove it at the time of making wudhu.

This shows that when a woman is in her menses and not performing Salaah, then she is allowed to wear the nail polish. Even, when she does not have to make wudhu, she can also wear it.
