How can a person with a back problem perform Rukhu and Sajdah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Assalamu Alaikum,

My mom has serious back pain due to a pinch nerve, she is unable to stand for all the Rakaahs as well as unable to go up and down. This is what she does, she will stand for the 1st Rakaah until the 1st Ruku. For the 1st Ruku she will sit on a chair.

After the 1st Ruku into the 1st Sijdah, from sitting on the chair she will go straight to the floor for Sijdah and remain there for the rest of the Rakaahs until Salams.

From the 1st Ruku to the 1st Sijdah she do not stand, she basicaaly kind of slide down from the chair to the floor and finish the Salaah on the floor.

Please advise what is permissible in her case.

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

What you have described is permissible and good. While sitting on the chair for ruku, she will need to bend slightly for ruku.

Due to her condition, it will allowed for her to go to the Sajdah posture form the chair, even though she did not stand up straight after doing the Ruku on the chair.

And Allah knows best,
