Can we omit the sunnahs of wudhu due to waswasa?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

There is a brother who is very stressed out because of his wudu. His wudu takes him 15 to 20 mins mostly and really tires him out badly. He suffers from waswas too (at times quite severe) during the wudu which trouble him too. Can he just do the faraid of wudu and not do the sunnahs? Will it be sinful if he was to omit the sunnahs? Will his wudu be accepted and proper? Could he get khuffs and wipe them having done the other three faraid of wudu to complete his wudu?

 Answer:

In the aforementioned scenario it will be permissible for the brother in question to suffice on the faraidh of wudhu. However, I would like to make it clear this is a special ruling for this particular situation and is not for every individual.

Generally, one should do the sunans of wudhu at all time even if there is a danger of missing the congregation for salah. (Fatawa Darul Uloom Deoband p.131 v.1)

It is also permissible for him to wear leather socks and during this period do the other three faraidh of wudhu and do masah over his leather socks.
