What is Waswasa

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

What is Waswasa?

 Answer:

Wasawasa refers to unfounded and baseless doubts – whispers from Shaitan.  Saaiduna Abu Hurairah raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said, ‘Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) has forgiven my ummah regarding those waswasas that creep into their hearts so long as they do not act upon them or bring them into their tongues’.  (Mishkatul Masaabeeh p.18 v.1)

Shaitan wil try to create waswasas in particular in the hearts of believers, especially in salah by creating worldly thoughts and doubts in it.  The musali should be firm and not give into these whispers and thoughts and should not allow the accursed Shaitan to overpower him.  (Mazaahirul Haqq p.155 v.1)
