The Hadith regarding Ramadan and its Three Parts

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Assalam alaikum, Sir my question is that one of my friend said that the 3 ashra’s described to us about ramazan are from zuaeef hades. He said that one of maghfira 2nd of rahma and 3rd of relief from the fire are not authentic

Answer:

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

The aforementioned hadith can be found in Sahih Ibn Khuzaimah, Imam Baihaqi’s Shuabul Imaan and Imam Mundhiri’s Targheebul Tarheeb.

It is a weak hadith, however, weak narrations are not acceptable only in regards to aqeedah and in establishing Shariah rulings, but are acceptable when it comes to virtues or fadhaails.

Scholars such as Imam Ibn Salah and Imam Nawawi have always stated that there is a leeway in quoting weak hadiths in virtues of acts.  Even Imam Bukhari raḥimahullāh (may Allāh have mercy upon him) brought weak narrations in his book “Al Adabul Mufrad”, indicating that he also accepts weak narrations in regards to virtues of good deeds.

With respect to your question, there is nothing wrong in acting upon weak hadiths in regards to virtues of good deeds.  This is an Islamic principle.

Finally, we should bear in mind that the pious and learned amongst the Ummah cannot be unanimous upon something that is false or not part of Islam. The Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) has said:

“Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) will not unite the Ummah of Mohammad ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) upon misguidance.  Allah’s help is with the majority.  Whoever deviates from them will be thrown into the fire of Jahannam.”  (Sunan Tirmizi p.39 v.2)
