Finishing the Quran in Taraweeh

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Asalam this question is regarding teraweeh prayers The question is what is the least days you can finish the quran khatam?

In the name of Allah, the most beneficent, the most merciful.

Answer:

It is stated in Raddul Muhtar that to complete the recitation of the Quran once during Taraweeh in Ramadan is Sunnah…It is stated that Imam Abu Hanifa used to recite ten ayahs in each rakats enabling the completion of the recitation of the Quran with ease during the month…  (Vol 1, P522)

Imam Al-Qadi says on the above subject: “… Do not recite more than one reading of the Quran as this may be hard upon the people. [While reciting], consideration should be given to the condition of the people. If the people concur that they would prefer a long recital, then that would be best.” (Fiqhus Sunnah, 2.29)

It can be concluded from the above that it is Sunnah to complete the whole recitation once during the month of Ramadan; however there is no limit to the minimum number of days in which the recitation can be completed. Consideration should be given to the people participating in the congregation of Taraweeh prayers and recitation of the Quran completed accordingly.

Only Allah knows best
