Question:

If a person has a university exam that he cannot miss or delay it to another date and this university exam is at the time of Jummah then what should the person do about the khutba of jummah and the salah of jummah.

If the student misses the university exam they fail the whole subject automatically.

Answer:

In The Name Of Allah, The Most-Merciful, The Most Kind

The Jumuah prayer is obligatory on adult males like yourself. Imam Al-Quduri mentions, “Jumuah is not obligatory on a traveller, a woman, a sick person, a slave, or a blind person.” [Al-Lubab 1:115] Therefore, a student is not normally exempted from attending Jumu’ah prayer.

There are a few options to consider. First, you can get a few brothers to meet you outside the classroom and you can hold your own Jumuah prayer there.

Second, you can ask the teacher in advance for another date for the final. Most universities will grant this since they make exceptions for people who are ill or have other legitimate excuses. If you let your professor know in advance, and are willing to take the exam a day or two earlier, they will usually allow it. The students who are refused from religious accommodation are usually the ones who ask on the day of the exam when they were supposed to have asked much earlier.

In many countries, there are laws that protect the practice of religion and ensure accommodation for such reasons.

Only Allah knows best
