Question

What surahs should a person read on Fridays?

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

A person should read the following Surahs:

Surah Al Kahf:

“A person who recites Surah Kahf on the day of Jummah will have light from his feet up to the sky. This light will serve him well on the day of Qiyamah, and every sin committed by him between the past and present Jummah will be forgiven.” (Musnad Ahmad)

Hafiz Zya’al-Maqdisi, in his book Al-Mukhtarah, has reported on the authority of Saaiduna Ali Radiallahu Anhu that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said, “One who recites Surah Al Kahf on the day of Jummah will remain protected from every fitnah (mischief). And if the Dajjal appears, he will stay safe against the challenges released by him as well.”

Surah Dhukaan:

The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam has said: “Whosoever recites Surah Dhukaan on the night of Jummah (i.e. Thursday night) seventy thousand Angels ask for forgiveness for that person until the morning. He Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam also said: “The one who reads Surah Dhukaan on the eve of Jummah or on the day of Jummah, Allah will build a home for him in Jannah.” (Tabaraani)
