In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer

If someone removes pubic hair whilst in the state of ihraam, then it will be upon him to give damm (sacrifice an animal).1 However, if one is not in the state of ihraam and intends to perform udhhiya (sacrificial animal), then it is only preferable to refrain from clipping one’s nails and removing body hair, but not necessary.

Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) has said: “A time limit was set for us in the trimming of the moustache, clipping the nails, plucking armpit hair, and shaving pubic hair, that we do not exceed forty days.” 2

Therefore, it is makruh (disliked) to not remove the pubic hair after forty days. Due to this, unless you’re in the state of ihraam, you should remove the pubic hair immediately.
