When does Qasr come into place?

Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

If a person who lives in Bradford intends to leave his house to first stop off and stay at a family’s house at Leeds for 2 or 3 days, and then continue the journey from there to London, does he pray qasr salah as soon as he leaves Bradford/ throughout his stay in Leeds or does he do so only once he leaves Leeds?

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

A Musafir who intends to travel the safr distance (88.8 kilometres) or more will start doing qasr from the moment he/she crosses the boundary of the city, meaning the furthest residential buildings of the city.

Hence, upon leaving the boundary of Bradford you may commence performing qasr and will continue to perform qasr while in Leeds and en route to London.[1]
