Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

White sugar is made by processing through bone columns, anyone knows about it? Also, soya sauce, is it brewed and fermented?

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh

White sugar is permissible in origin and the bone char derived from bone column otherwise known as natural carbon is used to filter out parts of the sugar and is not an ingredient. As for soy sauce, the intoxicant must be from grapes or dates and must have an intoxicating effect. With such a negligible quantity and then used in cooking at high heat, it is considered permissible.
