Question

Asalamualaikum.

Me and my wife were blessed with a baby girl about 6-7 weeks ago. My mother said if she fasts all her milk will go away, and it’s vital for the baby’s health/growth, she is breastfed continually for 6 months. My mother has already paid her fidya of £100. Is my mother correct, and was the fidya amount correct?

The first part of your query has been answered on the link below:

Fidya is not necessary in such a circumstance. However, the payment your mother made will be considered as optional charity.

And only Allah knows best.
