Question

Dear Sir My name is Umar. I suffer from bipolar disorder for the past 10 years. I have had a very bad phase, especially in my business, for the past three years due to which sometimes I go into extreme depression and sometimes extreme mania. A few days ago I went into extreme depression because I had deal turned down by Chinese. I started crying so I took overdosage of two different antidepressants and I also took overdosage of sedative medicines. Then after a few hours, I had a fight with my wife and I went into a phase of hyper-mania and then later in extreme hyper mania phase I said talaq three times to my wife. Then my sister and my father took me to one side and told me what are you doing and what have you said then I drank some water and after a few minutes when I realised what have I done then I immediately apologised my wife and I severe upon Allah that I have no intention of leaving my wife ever. We have a nine-month-old daughter as well. Now my wife is angry and she thinks talaq has been done. I have been married for the past two years please please advice me what should I do ??

Answer

In regards to the aforementioned question;

Divorce (talaaq) during mental illness or insanity wherein one has no control over his words or actions will NOT occur.

Only Allah knows best.
