If periods starts whilst having intercourse

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Question

If my period comes while having intercourse, should I perform Ghusl(janabat) immediately (while still bleeding) or should I wait until when my period stopped? If the latter is the case, should I make intention for janaba and hayd and perform a single bath or should I perform two separate baths? Or what should I do?

Answer

You may wash away the impurities after the relations and then have a fardh ghusal once you are out of the state of impurity after your cycle is complete, or, if you wanted to, you could also have a bath after the relations but it would not be enough to take you out of the state of ritual impurity. You would need to take a bath again after completing your cycle. (Bahishti Zewar, chapter of cleanliness)
