What is the Islamic ruling on paying zakat when purchasing land for purpose other than selling?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
I have purchased two plots not for selling purpose but to build home for rent purpose and one to gift for daughter. At present both are in land shape/form. Should I pay zakah on one or on both or not to pay? Please advise.

Answer

(Fatwa: 574/464/B=1434)

If you bought two plots with the intention of selling and later on you changed your intention and intended to construct house over the plot and rent it, and for one plot you intended to give to your daughter, then these plots are no more a business property; hence the zakah of plots shall not be wajib on you.
