Is it true that the Prophet offered nafl namaz after fardh sitting?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
I want to say that somebody told me that our Prophet always offered nafl namaz after fardh sitting. Some days back I came to know that the above statement is not correct. So please specify the correct way of offering nafl after fardh.

Answer

(Fatwa: 497/410/D=1434)

The holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) sometimes offered nafl salah specially two rakah after Isha salah while sitting. He sometimes did so due to weakness and excuse and sometime he offered nafl salah sitting without an excuse as well, and he used to get full reward of offering salah. (غنیۃ المصلی 236) But he did not offer nafl salah sitting regularly.
The ruling for Ummah is that it is also lawful to offer nafl salah sitting without any excuse. However, one shall get half reward of offering nafl salah while sitting.
