Is it required for a girl to change her last name to her husband’s after marriage in Islam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Is it true that after marriage the girl has to change her last name from her father’s name to her husband’s name? For e.g. my name is Aqsa Ambreen Haider. And my husband to be is Usama Naveed. Do I have to change my name to Aqsa Ambreen Naveed or Aqsa Ambreen Usama, even if I do not want to do so.

Answer

(Fatwa: 219/219/M=1434)

There is no such ruling that a woman should write the name of her husband instead of her father as her last name after marriage. You have right whether to keep your name Aqsa Ambeen after marriage with no addition. If you add Naveed or Usama in the last then too there is no harm. There is no restriction as per the Shariah.
