What are the legal implications of giving away property to family members in Muslim law?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Can a Muslim gift his self earned property after disowning his surviving son to his grandsons and wife and three daughters?

Answer

(Fatwa: 162/119/D=1434)

It is sever sin to deprive the living son and give the property to others. It is mentioned in hadith that a person who cuts the right of any heir, Almighty Allah shall cut his share from Jannah.
If you want to distribute your property in your life then it is mustahab that you keep some property for yourself and for your wife and if you want to give your grandson then give him some share and divide the remaining property among your sons and daughters and give their shares in their possessions. If you do not want to distribute all the property then you have the right to give as gift to one you wish and not to give to one you wish. But you should not have an intention to deprive anyone rather there should be the valid reason if you are depriving anyone of his or her share.
