What should I do to avoid shirk and kufr while keeping my name?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Shahul Hameed is my name. What is the meaning for my name and our area Imam advised me to change my name as Abdul Hameed. Because He says Shahul – goat and Hameed – name of Allah if you put the name Abdul Hameed it will become slave of the praised one. If you put name Shahul Hameed it will become goat the praised one. It is kufr and shirk. All praise goes to Allah only not for his creatures what I can do?

In your name Shahul Hameed if the word “Shah” is an Arabic word and ہا is round تا then it shall mean the goat of Hameed (adorable i.e. Allah). Obviously you are the slave of Allah and a human being not the goat of Allah. Hence you should change this name. However, the Imam who said it is kufr and shirk, it is not correct. But if the word Shah is a Persian word which means king and it is probable then since Al-Hameed is the name of Allah and it is not correct for anyone to keep this name, hence keep any other name or Abdul Hameed.
