How can I give kaffarah for breaking a promise to Allah, e.g. by donating money to a charity?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
I have made a promise with Allah not to do a work. But I broke it. Now I want to repent. What is the kaffarah for it? Can I give the kaffarah as money to an organization which distributes clothes to the needy?

Answer

(Fatwa: 155/115/D=1434)

If you did not utter the words of oath then taubah and istighfar is enough for breaking the promise, monetary kaffarah is not wajib in this case. Yes, if you give something in charity then there is no problem rather it is better. As it is mentioned in hadith that sadaqah removes the anger of Almighty Allah. If the organization is trustworthy then you can pay to it as well.
