Must one finish Hifz if it becomes difficult? What is the punishment for forgetting Quran?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
(1) Is it compulsory to completely learn the holy Quran once you start Hifz i.e. someone stops learning after 10 para because it was getting difficult to memorize further. (2) Someone who forgets some portion of memorized Quran, what is punishment for him in hereafter?

Answer

(Fatwa: 1575/1060/H=1433)

(1) It is not wajib. However one should not let this great blessing slip off one’s hands and should continue with enthusiasm then it will cause blessings.
(2) It is hoped that in such case he shall not be sinful.
(3) Almighty Allah knows the best about the punishment of the hereafter. One should hope that Allah would forgive; however it is pure justice if one is punished as per his guilt.

Allah (Subhana Wa Ta’ala) knows Best
