Is renting a building space to a bank permissible under Islamic law?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
My brother owns a building space which he intends to rent out. Can he rent it to a bank for conducting its business. Since banks deal in interest for SB accounts and loans etc., he wants to know whether the rent received from bank is halal.

Answer

(Fatwa: 404/404=M/1429)

When you know it already that banks do interest-based transactions and their system is based on interest, then it is not correct to rent a building to bank, since helping in sin is sin, as Allah Almighty says: ولاتعاونوا علی الإثم و العدوان (سورة مائده)

Your brother should rent the building to one doing lawful business.
