What is the proper way for women to sit when praying and how does it differ from men?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Would u please tell me the proper way for women to sit, when we pray, also can you please differenciate the sitting position, from men.

Answer

(Fatwa: 197/197=M/1429)

The sunnah mode for women’s sitting in salah is ‘tawarruk’ i.e. she should sit on her hips while taking out her left leg from beneath her right hip. This position is having more satr (veil) for women. As it is mentioned in notes of Tahtawi:

ويسن (تورك المراة) بأن تجلس علي أليتها و تضع الفخذعلي الفخذ و تخرج رجلها من تحت وركها اليمنی لأنه أستر لها

While the sunnah way for men is to spread the left leg and sit on it while keeping the right foot in standing position with their fingers facing the qiblah.
