Is it permissible to take pictures of people according to Hadith and Quran?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
In regards to taking pictures of people whether at weddings or at random what is said in the books of hadith and Quran about this? I went to wedding on the weekend and there was video cameras and people taking pictures and filming everyong. I was approached to join in a photo but I refused. I know we are forbidden to hang pictures of human and animals on the walls in our house but what if we keep them on our digital cameras or our computers or our mobile phones?

Answer
