assalamoalaikum, I want to know that the name ” ERUM” for a girl is right to choose? what does it mean ? nd my second question is that is it necessary for a girl to attach her husband’s name after her name as she get married, what is islamic guidance in that view? thanks.

(Fatwa: 373/373=M/1429)
It is not right to name one ?Erum? since it means: to perish, to be barren etc. Also, Erum is a nation destroyed by Allah, the nation ?Aad? (عاد) belongs to them, as mentioned in Quran. Therefore, it is better to name her ?Maryam? or some other name having good meaning.
(2) It is not necessary for a woman to suffix her husband’s name, as per the Shariah she is not bound to do so.
