What is the importance of Walimah (occasion just after the day of marriage)?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
What is the importance of Walimah (occasion just after the day of marriage)? Is it very necessary to celeberate it? Is mandha (the occasion just before the day of marriage) allowed in islam?

Answer

(Fatwa: 1466/1147=H)

(1) Walima is a feast that is presented to relatives, the poor and needy people as a token of thanks after nikah and meeting of the bride and groom.

(2) Walima is not wajib (compulsory) but only sunnah.

(3) This is an un-Islamic custom; therefore it should be abandoned.
