How should one go about distributing assets in case of death when an adopted child is involved?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
respected mufti sahab , one of my relatives adopted a girl 22 yrs ago. They do not have any other child of their own . i wanted to ask that what will be the distribution of assets in case of their death .Is an adopted child a legal heir of any part of their property ? both the man and his wife have brothers and sisters.

Answer

(Fatwa: 751/626/B=1432)

It is right to adopt the girl but she would not become her real daughter. Hence that girl will not inherit the property of the person who has adopted her. If the person who adopted has brothers and sisters, they shall be his heirs.
