Is it permissible to choose “Hadi” as a Muslim baby name?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
(1) Is it permissible to choose “Hadi” as a Muslim baby name? (2) Is it allowed to choose a name from the 99 names of Allah without using Abdul, e.g. instead of Abdul Samad. Is it allowed to just choose Samad? Please guide.

Answer

(Fatwa: 154/154/M=1433)

Hadi is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah (Asma-e-Husna); hence if a baby is named as Abdul Hadi, it is better. But it is not correct to name only Samad, it should be Abdus Samad.
