Answer

(Fatwa: 885/557/L=1432)

In the question mentioned above, if you had an abortion of less than four months pregnancy then if the bleeding continues more than three days it shall be called the blood of haiz (menstruating period). The ruling is that if the bleeding continues for more than three days and less than ten days, then these days shall be counted of haiz, and the rulings of a menstruating woman shall be applicable on you i.e. it shall be haram for you during these period to offer salah, recite the holy Quran and have intercourse with your husband. But, if the blood continues for more than ten days while you had a habit of particular days in haiz (for example five or six days in a month) then during your habit days (i.e. five or six days for example) you shall be haiza (menstruating) and during these period you shall avoid from above mentioned practices. And the blood that comes outside the habit days shall be of istihazah (prolonged morbid bleeding) and it shall be lawful for you in this state to recite the holy Quran, offer salah and have intercourse with your husband.

If you had an abortion of more than four months then the blood that continued shall be of nifas (postpartum period) and in nifas bleeding continues at least for forty days or less. As many days the bleeding will continue the aforesaid practices shall be unlawful for you. Once the blood stops, you will be allowed to offer salah, have intercourse etc.
