Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
One wife asked for Khula and her husband granted khula. Now what is the period of iddah? Is it right to claim life long maintenance by the wife from the husband in view of Shariah? Indian courts support life time maintenance and male are suffering a lot. So what is the remedy for this problem? Please kindly reply.

Answer

(Fatwa: 1677/1677/M=1432)

Iddah is three months (three menstruating period) and if at the time of khula the woman is pregnant then her term of iddah is to give birth to her child. After completing iddah, husband is not responsible for any expense. It is not right to demand for a long term expense as per the Shariah. People invite problems by going to courts and then ask its solution from us.
