Answer

(Fatwa: 2164/1991/D/1429)

As per the Shariah, there is nothing wrong if any system or schedule is made for carrying out a work. So limitation of three or forty days for Tablighi Jamat is from the same kind, so that the system is maintained well and it is easy to carry out the work. Also, the forty-day-period has a special effect in changing the conditions; as the conditions of nutfa (sperm) changes in form of Alaqah (piece of thick coagulated blood), muzghah (a little lump of flesh) etc each after forty days. It is also in Hadith that a person who worships Allah Almighty with sincerity for forty days, Allah makes a stream of wisdom flow from his tongue; therefore in order to achieve this blessing, the elders of Tabligh have included the forty-day-period in their system.
