I seek your guidance in a Masla that what is the reality of “Shab-e-Brat”. Is it proved from Prophet peace be upon him and his Sahabas(R.A). Kindly guide me with detail answer.

(Fatwa: 541/541=L)

In several weak traditions this night has been declared virtuous and blessed one:

عن علی بن طالب رضی اللہ عنہ قال: قال رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم: اذا کانت لیلۃ النصف من شعبان فقوموا لیلھا و صوموا نھارھا الخ (ابن ماجہ: 100)

عن ابی موسی الأشعری رضی اللہ عنہ عن النبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم: ان اللہ لیطلع فی لیلۃ ۔۔۔ النصف من شعبان فیغفر جمیع خلقہ الا لمشرک أو مشاحن (ابن ماجہ: 101، و نحوہ فی صحیح بن حبان: 7/470، رقم الحدیث: 5636)

The above-mentioned and some other traditions indicate that it is desirable (mustahab) to perform more and more prayers in this night. Allama Abdul Hai Lucknowi writes:

فیعلم بمجموع الأحادیث القولیۃ والفعلیۃ استحباب اکثار العبادۃ فیھا (الآثار المرفوعۃ: 43)

i.e. as per the overall meaning of all the traditions related to this topic, it is desirable to engage oneself more and more in prayers in this night.
