Is using contraceptives to keep a gap between children allowed?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Dear Mufti sb, AOA, My question is that can we use contraceptives for the purpose of keeping gap between children AS PER THE FOLLOING CONDITIONS: 1. so that I and my wife can focus our full attention on the brought up of our earlier baby i.e her food, clothings, health etc, beacauze we think its our very important responsibility. 2. so that my wife can maintain her beauty for me for longer time period, which we think is not possible without having some gap between children. Mufti sb due to the above mentioned fact I once again ask my question, that whether can we use contraceptives for gap, and if yes, what method is allowed? May ALLAH increase you in knowledge that result in your and ours success of both worlds. AMEEN

Answer

(Fatwa: 613/443=L/1430)

If the health of woman is weak, she is unable to bear pregnancy or she fears unbearable pain in case of conception, or any expert religious Muslim physician prescribes it or she fears about the health of her already born child, then in such conditions she can use any contraceptive temporarily. If there are no such difficulties, using contraceptives temporarily also is against the wish of Shariah and a cause of Allah’s displeasure. So, in view of the excuses mentioned above, using contraceptives is makrooh (undesirable).
