Why is the Hajj pilgrimage performed over three days?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Assalamu alaykum Can you please tell ne why in Hajj “Rami” is performed over three days while the incident between hadrat ibrahim/ismail only took place once. Also why on one day only one jamaraat is pelted only? May Allah reward you in both worlds.

Answer

(Fatwa: 754=534/H)

The story of Hazrat Ibrahim and Isamel (Alaihimas Salam) is a Sabab (cause) not Illah (Base) of the matter. Actually, the commandment of Shariah is the base of this ruling. And, the commandment is that on the first day Rami of one Jamara, on the second and third day Rami of three Jamaraat should be performed.

Secondly, it is to be noted the activities of Hajj are manifestations of the love of Allah. And, in a lover’s styles no reasons are being applied. For people like us, it is enough that this is a commandment of Quran and Hadith.
