Is it Sunnah to leave a gap of four fingers between feet when praying in jamaat?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
As salamu aleykum, It is stated in the Hanafi books; Nurul Izaah, Tahtaawi and Halabi Saghir that it is Sunnah to leave a gap of four fingers between ones own feets in Salaat. Does this also count when praying in jamaat, or only when one is praying alone ? I ask this because its mentioned in several ahadith to stand close as much as possible together to one another in the rows with the shoulders, knees, ankles, feets. When doing so the gap of four fingers will not be enough to achieve this. Was salaam

It is not mentioned in the Hadith to stand keeping feet together, but only to keep ankles together is mentioned which is interpreted by the scholars of Hadith that both the ankles should be opposite to each other. Therefore, there is no wrong to keep distance of four fingers or less or more in between the feet. Undoubtedly, it is possible to act upon the Hadith. You can experience it by standing with others if you are unable to understand.
