Is hajj-e-badal valid for an 82-year-old mother-in-law?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
My mother-in-law is going to perform umrah (with her money and she have enough money to perform hajj also) along with her daughter and grandson now. She is very old i.e. 82 years. She is telling her son to do hajj-e-badal of her. Whether it is valid?

Answer

(Fatwa: 667/667/M=1433)

If your mother-in-law is able to perform the rituals of hajj by herself then it is necessary for her to go for hajj. And if she is too weak to go herself and in future too there is no hope for such ability then hajj-e-badal is permissible on her behalf.
