Is it permissible to use money from wine store accounts to pay a non-Muslim employee and taxes?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Assalaam-u-Alaikum, I own a credit card processing company, in which I have a few representatives working under me. Some of them are also non-muslims. I, myself, do not sign up any wine stores, but cannot stop them from doing so. The thing is, that I get a certain percentage on their accounts. I have been keeping the money from these accounts seperate till now, but I have no idea what to do with this money. So my question is, will it be ok for me to hire a non-muslim employee for the firm, and pay him from this money? And also, are we allowed to pay our income tax form this or interest money ? I am very confused regarding what to do with this money, so, please guide me in how to utilize it and stay away from gunah. Jazak Allah

Answer

(Fatwa: 1888/127=D/1429)

(a) It is not lawful to give salary even to non-Muslims from the unlawful income, but it is wajib (essential) to give such money in sadqah, so you should do sadqah.

(b) It is also not permissible to pay income tax with that money, albeit it is allowable to pay income tax with interest money but you can pay income tax with the interest you have received from the government or the governmental banks.
