Asslam Ale kum 1. Sir I want to know that after a ring ceremony that we call “SAGAI” can a person talk on phone to his fiancee. If their parents has already given the permission and do not have any objection on that. Both are from different families. 2. Also drinking water while standing is Haram or not. Is that Hadis correct that if a person drink water while standing he should put his finder in the throat and vomit and then drink after sitting.

Answer

(Fatwa: 1262/1262/M=1431)

(1) Mangetar (fiancée) is like stranger before nikah. It is not lawful to talk to her on phone without any valid reason. Who are the parents to allow it, when Islam has put a ban on this? Alas, that parents allow it and have no objection on it.
(2) It is not better to drink water standing. The holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) forbade from drinking water standing.
أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم نهى عن الشرب قائماً (ترمذي شريف)
The hadith of vomiting goes like this:
لا يشربن أحدمنكم قائماً فمن نسي فليستقى .
No one of you should drink water standing; if one forgets (and drinks standing forgetfully) he should vomit. [Muslim]
