Is it an Islamic belief to follow only one mazhab (Hanafi, Shafi etc)?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Asalamu alykum wr wb.,, people today say that its not islamic belief to fallow a particular mazhab{hanafi, shafi etc}, what does ulma say about it!! My second question is are prophets alive as martyrs are alive? Thank you

Answer

(Fatwa: 632/512/B=1431)

(1) One who is not mujtahid (capable to derive ruling from the main sources of Quran and Hadith) it is must for him to follow any mujtahid Imam, this is the Islamic belief.

(2) Yes, the Prophets (عليهم السلام) are alive in their graves with Barzakhi life (transitional life after death and before resurrection). Almighty Allah has prevented the land to eat the body of Prophets (عليهم السلام).
