Is there a time limit between Nikkah and Valima?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Assalam Alaikum, My son’s Nikkah has been fixed, and to avoid unwanted expenses we would like to do the Valima soon after the Nikkah. My relative adviced to do the Valima 15 minutes after the Nikkah during this period Bride and Groom should meet together. 1. Please advice is there any time duration limit between Nikkah and Valima? 2. If so what are the formalities to be completed? Your immediate response shall be highly appreciated in this regard. Wassalam.

Answer

(Fatwa: 1164/973=D/1430)

According to one opinion, the feast of Nikah suffices for walimah, while according to another opinion walimah feast should be arranged within three days after meeting the bride.

(2) Walimah should be observed avoiding show and display in simple way as per one’s status in which the relatives, friends including the poor and the neighbour are invited. All the etiquettes and morals of feast should be observed in particular i.e. arranging sitting system, wasting minimum quantity of food, collecting leftovers carefully at a place which can be of any use for the poor and beggars.
