Can a man pay zakat to people with TVs?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Assalamwalaikum, i have this questions 1).can a man pay zakat to persons who have television in their house? 2) If a person asks for zakat from you but you think that he has enough money not to be eligible for zakat should zakat be given to the person due to good relationship with that person? 3).what is better in giving zakat giving less money to more people or more money to less people?

Answer

(Fatwa: 1545/1448/M=1430)

It is not lawful to give him Zakah if he does not deserve to receive the same.

(2) When you know that the particular person does not deserve to receive Zakah, you are not allowed to give him Zakah only due to good relation. If you want to strengthen your relation, you should give him gift etc.

(3) It is makrooh to give Zakah in such an amount that the poor becomes owner of nisab. You should give him less than that as you like. You are free to give small amounts to many or large amounts to some poor. You should only mind that a faqir should not become owner of nisab by receiving Zakah.
