Is it permissible to hug and celebrate after a nikah in Islam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
I have noticed in a nikah that took place in the local Masjid, that immediately after nikah is done people stand up and start hugging each other and congratulating each other and celebrate the fact nikah took place. Is there any basis of this in Islam? Is it permissible?

Answer

(Fatwa: 294/L=192/TL=1433)

It is not a Shariah practice to hug each other, congratulate or celebrate the nikah while standing just after nikah. As it is an expression of happiness, it does not carry any harm. However, it is against etiquette to celebrate such type of celebration in a Masjid; hence it should not be celebrated in the mosque.
