aslamalikum mufti sahib, i was 25, working in Kuwait from 3years,in 2008 my parents engage me with my uncles daughter on 20 sept 2008, in July when i was in India they cancel my engagement. i ask my wife and i married her near qazisab of another village in my own city. after that they begin to quarrel with me. in that position i didn’t did my walima until now i feel guilty about that.can u tell me please what i have to do? i did Nikah two times on 16th in my friends home, on 20th in my home in front of my parents. plz can u replay me soon…thankx masalam.

Walimah is sunnah after nikah or rukhsati. If only your engagement was announced i.e. only the proposal of nikah was finalised, and formal nikah (with ijab and qubool) was not carried out, in this case there is no need to perform walimah. And if your nikah was performed but there was no rukhsati then hold walimah after rukhsati (meeting the spouse). And if nikah and rukhsati both were carried out and you could not hold walimah on time, then you missed the sunnah. There is no makeup of it after the due time of walimah passed; hence you should ask Almighty Allah for forgiveness.
