What are the restrictions and guidelines for illegitimate children in Islam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
I would like to know what Islam says about me, as I am born to parents who were not married. I heard that illegitimate children are not allowed to lead prayers. Is this true? Are there any restrictions to me in dunya or deen?

Answer

(Fatwa: 802/802/M=1432)

According to Shariah, you are not guilty. Guilty is the pair (man and woman) with whose illegal meeting you were born. There is no restriction for you. The criteria of virtue before Allah is taqwah (piety) and righteousness. Your good deeds can make you as respectful as others in the eyes of Allah. If you fulfil the criteria taqwah, purity and other qualities and conditions, you can lead salah.
