Can I pray & make dua for non-Muslim friends’ worldly affairs?

(1) i am working in office where most of my collegeous are non muslims and they are approaching me for some help. i use to make efforts to complete such help. please clarify whether i can pray two rakats salatulhajath before starting such work. (2) some non muslim friends are approaching me and asking me to do dua for their worldly affairs like passing of their son in exams etc. whether i can do dua for their (non muslim) wordly affairs. please inform me.

You can pray for the worldly affairs of your non-Muslim colleagues if you do not commit anything forbidden by Shariah. Once Makkah faced famine, Abu Sufyan (while still not Muslim) came to the Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) and requested him to supplicate to Allah to remove the famine. The Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) prayed for rain, and so it rained:

أن أبا سفيان استشفع بالنبي صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم وسأله أن يدعو الله ليرفع عنهم ما ابتلاهم به من القحط  فاستسقى لهم فسقوا، قال العلامۃ العینی: لا دليل هنا على الخصوصية وهي لا تثبت بالاحتمال (عمدۃ القاري)

But, while praying for them, one should intend their hidayah and should not perform Salatul Haajah.
